The First Amendment

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
~ The First Amendment

The First Amendment is incredibly important to the American society.  It allows us to state our opinions and express our ideas and beliefs without fear of harm from the government.  That’s one of the great things about being an American.  Compared to other countries, we have SO much to be appreciative for.  The fact that we can say what we want (for the most part) and not have to worry about getting in trouble is such a privilege.  And many times, we take it for granted.  I love that I have that freedom.  I am definitely one to express how I feel, so being able to do that without fear is great.  Particularly because I am a student in high school, I am being given more and more opportunities to say things in yearbooks, newspapers, and blog posts!  Therefore, it has become even more important and beneficial that the First Amendment protects my rights as an American citizen to say what I wish.  While it is important to understand the consequences of slander and other potential wrongdoings, having my opinions protected by the First Amendment is awesome!
